Infection Control
In a hospital environment, large amounts of harmful microorganisms tend to cluster. The most important rule of hospital design from an infection control point of view is not to expose the patient to harmful infections while in the hospital.
Airborne transmission occurs when either airborne droplet nuclei or dust particles disseminate infectious agents. In this case the control of ventilation and air handling is very needed to prevent nosocomial airborne transmission of microorganisms.

Energy consumption:
The amount of energy used up in healthcare buildings by traditional types of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems is about 40% of the total building energy consumption. It also accounts for many harmful emissions released into the environment.

Noise Level:
Higher-than-recommended hospital noise levels may cause patients to lose sleep and impede their ability to heal, according to a new study in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The noise level should be restricted to 35 NC level for all patient rooms, operating rooms (major or minor), diagnostic rooms, audio suites, examination rooms, conference rooms, large offices, lobbies and waiting area.

Isolation Rooms:

An isolation facility aims to control the airflow out of the room so that the number of airborne infectious particles is reduced to a level that ensures cross-infection of other people within a healthcare facility is highly unlikely. This may be achieved by:
  • Control of the Volume and quality of intake or exhaust air.
  • Maintain differential air pressures between adjacent areas.

Operating Theaters

Hospital Pharmacies/ Clean Rooms

Hospital pharmacies source many types of medications and treatments for patients, including Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSPs) for cancer treatment.
