Our Scope

Design & Supply of the Venturi Perchloric Acid Exhaust System-MVT System

For both Colleges; Engineering and Petroleum & College of Science

Perchloric Exhaust Systems (900CFM, 2WC’’) was supplied, configured as one wash down venturi with 2 fans attached. (1 operational + 1 standby) with Automatic factory programmed changeover controller.

Extracting perchloric Acid

HClO4 Perchloric acid is clear liquid that has no odor. Solutions below 73% at room temperature are strong non-oxidizing acids. The problem of exhausting perchloric acid vapors is that the vapors condense and then crystallize in the exhaust system. The crystallized, or dried, perchloric acid is very unstable, such that vibration or shock waves to the duct and exhaust fans system can result in an explosion. This vibration, caused by fan operation or general maintenance, may cause the crystals within the system to dislodge and cause the explosion. Perchloric acid, though, can be neutralized with water and flushed from the exhaust system.

MK Plastics MVT System Features

  • Induced exhaust, no moving blower or moving parts in the air stream.
  • Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) construction providing superior corrosion resistance to perchloric acid.
  • Internal wash-down system to flush any accumulated crystals in the venturi.
  • Wash down factory programmed controller to control the valves & to manage fans operation
  • Blower is mounted outside the air stream for safe service and inspection.
  • Stack is insulated to prevent condensation of acid vapors and formation of ice.
  • Water wash line is electrically heat traced to prevent freezing in sub-zero applications.
  • Complies with “ACGIH” and “CRC Handbook on Laboratory Safety”. CRC reference.
